Seth and family: Franca, Raphael, Ezra, and Seth
Franca, Raphael, Ezra, and Seth
Takoma Park has been a wonderful home for my family and me.

My wife, Franca Brilliant, and I moved here in 1996. Franca works for Nonprofit Montgomery and our kids – Ezra is a junior at the Univ. of Colorado and Raphael works in Chicago in theater – attended Montgomery County public schools. I started a business here in 1997, consulting on “natural language processing” (NLP) technology and artificial intelligence and their applications. A lot of my work involves community building. Check out a group I run, the DC NLP meetup.

I served two terms on the Takoma Park City Council, representing Ward 1, and have been involved in local advocacy and nonprofit work for decades.

As an elected official, advocate, and organizer, I have led efforts to create a better community, improve lives for everyone, advance environmentalism, and promote public safety and good government.

How? In recent years, as:

  • Takoma Park Mobilization co-founder, currently active in TPM’s Equal Justice Committee, which I represent (along with Silver Spring Justice Coalition) on a multi-organization working group on police and traffic enforcement
  • Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee member-elect representing Maryland District 20Seth doing Small Things Matter food recovery
  • Campaign manager for Perry Paylor, a 2022 candidate for Montgomery County State’s Attorney
  • A Kokua Foods (food rescue) founding advisor and frequent volunteer, recognized as a Small Things Matter A-list inductee
  • A field organizer (paid) supporting the 2021 Virginia gubernatorial campaign; the January 2021 Georgia Senate run-off (for now-Senators Warnock and Ossoff!); and in eastern Pennsylvania in the fall of 2020 on behalf of the Biden-Harris campaign

And previously? As:

  • Board vice chair at Shepherd’s Table, serving the unhoused and needy community members in Silver Spring
  • A member of the Montgomery County Board of Social Services
  • Via board service at Tifereth Israel Congregation, Lumina Studio Theatre, and the Old Takoma Business Association

Civil disobedience at the White House in support of immigrants in 2017

And in Takoma Park? As:

  • A member of the Washington regional Transportation Planning Board (2012-5)
  • Co-chair of the Takoma Junction Task Force, co-recorder of the Tax and Services Duplication Issues Committee, and a member of three other city committees
  • A founding advisor of the Village of Takoma Park
  • A two-year core team member of the TPSS Community Kitchen team
  • Co-founder of nonprofit advocacy groups Sustainable Takoma and Safe Takoma
  • President of the Old Town Residents’ Association

The unifying themes of my campaign are my passion for public service and ability to deliver.
